Stoptober Campaign Resources Available

September 22, 2020

Public Health England have launched Stoptober, the national campaign that encourages the nation’s smokers to make a quit attempt for the month of October and beyond. This is based on the evidence that if a smoker can quit for 28 days, they are five times more likely to quit for good.

We’re taking a fresh new creative approach for Stoptober this year, positioning it as part of the new ‘Better Health’ brand and focusing on the positive impact that quitting smoking has on lung health. As with previous campaigns, we’ll begin with a ‘rally’ phase which aims to encourage smokers to prepare for quitting on 1 October, followed by a ‘support’ phase which runs throughout October to help them sustain their quit attempt.

The resources prompt smokers to search ‘Stoptober’, which takes them to a new landing page on the Better Health website.  Here they will find a range of information and support on quitting, including several free tools including the Stoptober App, SMS and email support and the local stop smoking service search facility.r

Stoptober is not a mandated campaign, but pharmacies are encouraged to actively support it. Digital resources can be downloaded from the PHE resource Centre. This link has been added to the LPC website, where you can also find resources for other ongoing public health campaigns.
