Since 2016, the Pharmacy Integration Fund has funded and tested several operational service models throughout England that can be used to enhance community pharmacy’s role in urgent care provision.

Using the evidence from these pilots, the Community Pharmacist Consultation Service
(CPCS) is being commissioned as an Advanced Service from 29 October 2019, with the
expectation that additional strands to the service will continue to be tested and developed in the future. At the time of service commencement, the referrals to community pharmacies will be made by NHS 111 or Integrated Urgent Care Clinical Assessment Services (IUC CAS).

How can I register for the CPCS service?

If you want to provide the service, you need to register to use the Manage Your Service (MYS) portal on the NHSBSA website.

Registrations are open from 1 September 2019. The service will be live from 29 October 2019. Any claims made for 29 to 31 October 2019 will be processed in November.

How much transition payment can I get?

If you sign up to CPCS between 1 September 2019 and 11:59pm on 1 December 2019, you’ll receive a £900 transition payment. If you sign up between 2 December 2019 and 11:59pm on 15 January 2020, you’ll receive £600.

Any registrations after 16 January 2020 will not receive a transition payment.

How much does the pharmacy get paid to provide the CPCS service?

When a pharmacy provides the service, they can claim a £14 fee per completed consultation.

How do I submit a claim for payment?

You will need to use either PharmaOutcomes or Sonar Health to receive referrals and process claims. The MYS portal will be automatically prepopulated with the claim information. You will then be able to verify and submit claims each month.

EPS tokens for exempt patients must still be sent to NHSBSA to be scanned and kept for Post Payment Verification (PPV) purposes.
