The Medicines Management (MM) team at Coventry and Rugby CCG are in the process of implementing the branded generics programme. A generic CCG email address has been set up to allow contractors to communicate with the CCG Medicines Management Team regarding stock shortages, quotas or “out of stocks” etc. The email address is: email@example.com. AAH and Alliance (the two major wholesalers) have confirmed that the branded products above are all stocked as normal stock in our local branches.
Some wholesalers use the PIP Code as the means of identifying a product however some wholesalers use their own unique codes. Some wholesalers have chosen to list branded generic products under the generic name with the branded generic name bracketed whilst others have it listed by the brand name on product. This is important because if the community pharmacist attempts to order using the wrong details it will appear that the item is not stocked.
The MM team will make every effort to liaise with the pharmacies local to their practices in terms of local implementation and “fine tuning”.
When wholesale switches are planned, the MM team will endeavour to carry out a phased switch within large practices and apply a tiered approach with practices close together to help support increased demand for a new product.
