Covid-19 Advice

Advice for smokers and vapers

Around 10 million people in the UK smoke cigarettes and two thirds of those would like to quit.¹

Pharmacy stop smoking services provide patients who are committed to quit with regular support and motivational counselling alongside the use of Nicotine Replacement Therapy to increase the success of their quit attempt by 4 times compared to going it alone. The service is run by trained professionals face to face in the consultation room.

The pharmacy provides an easy to access setting for many patients at times that are suitable for their busy schedules increasing their success rates.

Please note that the switchover from PharmPerform to PharmOutcomes has now been completed. From January 1st, 2020 all  NRT and Champix vouchers should be entered on PharmOutcomes only.

Digital Resources: posters and social media graphics

You can download some digital resources by HLS to support the Stop  Smoking Service near Christmas in Coventry on the following LINK.

How does the Coronavirus crisis impact this service?

In light of the rapid spread of COVID-19 the NCSCT is recommending that face-to-face stop smoking consultations cease immediately.

We recommend that behavioural support continues to be provided via telephone (or Skype/Facetime to maintain face-to-face contact where possible) For now you can continue to deliver the Standard Treatment Programme over the telephone: available HERE.

June 9th Update:

As part of their commitment to support pharmacies in such unprecedented times, and in collaboration with Public Health and Coventry City Council, Coventry Healthy Lifestyles will be paying pharmacies that have delivered the Stop Smoking Service a percentage of delivery based on activity during 2019/2020 financial year. Central Health will make these payments to you within the next month.

Smoking may put a person at increased risk of Covid-19 and mean they are more likely to require hospitalisation if they have the disease. The #QuitforCovid campaign is proving successful; the pandemic has made many people think about their health and consider a quit attempt. Although you may not yet be offering face-to-face consultations you can still support your patients to quit through telephone consultations and supply of NRT or Champix.

Coventry Healthy Lifestyles and Central Health welcome any thoughts or ideas that you may have on how we can work together when the re-phasing in of services within the community starts, and how we can continue to develop robust referral pathways for patients to Coventry Healthy Lifestyles going forward.
